A Theory of Evolution Attempts to Explain Why It Has Not Evolved
The Department Located the Cause
The Department solved the adoption problem at 08:07.
This was faster than the framework had spread.
At the end of Chapter 10, I had opened a file called Framework Adoption after discovering that no institution appeared to possess a mandate to decide whether humanity should adopt Triadic Evolution. I had stopped before using that absence as an explanation. The fact that nobody was responsible for adopting an interdisciplinary framework did not establish that anybody should have adopted it.
The Department had retained the unfinished field.
I deleted all three entries.
The Department asked whether I had evidence that the absence of an adoption authority was not the cause.
I said I had evidence that we had not yet established an adoption failure.
This produced a longer pause.
The initiating anomaly of the investigation had always been carefully stated: Triadic Evolution appeared broad in scope and small in visible consequence. The Project had never licensed me to turn that impression into a universal bibliometric fact. Ten chapters later, the distinction mattered more, not less. I now knew several reasons a community might rationally decline the full framework: its components had extensive prior art, specialists had stronger native methods, several classifications remained under-tested, independent reliability studies had not been conducted, observed outcome superiority had not been established, and the practical survivors kept compressing into smaller tools.
Those were properties of the object, not excuses made by the environment.
Yet Chapter 10 had also supplied the opposite pressure. Scientific ideas, governance arrangements, and practical instruments move through actual actors, institutions, media, incentives, reputations, curricula, standards, publishers, search systems, professional networks, and habits. A useful idea can fail to travel. A weak idea can travel efficiently. Propagation and merit are related only through mechanisms that have to be demonstrated rather than assumed.
Triadic Evolution itself claimed to understand exactly this kind of problem. Its account of Evolution by Organization treats culture, roles, routines, records, institutions, education, law, and collective memory as mechanisms through which socially constituted arrangements persist, vary, spread, and are abandoned. A book can preserve material. It becomes organizationally active only when people interpret, teach, contest, adopt, or enact what it carries. [1]
The framework had therefore arrived at a dangerous opportunity.
It could explain why nobody was using it.
I needed to determine whether that explanation was science, reconstruction, or self-defense.
The Object Was Younger Than the Diagnosis
I began with the date because the Department had not.
The current edition of Triadic Evolution was released on August 7, 2026. I was writing this portion of the report on September 2. The book whose present architecture I had spent ten chapters testing was twenty-six days old. [2]
This was not a long period in which to accumulate citations, syllabi, implementations, professional communities, empirical replications, standards, conferences, or disappointed schools of thought.
The Department had diagnosed failed propagation before the object had completed one lunar cycle.
It argued that important ideas can spread quickly.
I agreed.
It asked whether this one had.
I said the question had changed again.
The source itself identifies a longer lineage. Enterprise Architecture Reimagined in 2017 developed an early unit-based approach and separated social, physical, and computational concerns. The Transformable Enterprise in 2021 connected those concerns to making, computing, relating, fleet-based transformation, and an initial three-mode account of evolution. The Triadic Evolution in 2024 became the direct predecessor of the three-strand framework. Unit Oriented Enterprise Architecture in 2025 developed evolutionary units, social cores, technological peripheries, and fleet-based construction of large sociotechnical formations. Ecosystems Thinking in 2026 supplied the immediate responsibility architecture of agents, units, formations, three Orders, represented action, architectural cuts, ideal complexity, and restrained intervention. The present framework retains that lineage while materially revising it: responsibility topology becomes the actor discriminator, the 2024 language of civilizational direction gives way to bounded polycentric influence, and refutation conditions, mediation, extension governance, correctability, and provisional missions are added. [1]
A failure to distinguish those objects would produce exactly the kind of inheritance error Chapter 4 had warned about. Persistence of a name is not persistence of an unchanged mechanism. Nor did descent through one authorial program establish independent selection by a community. The 2024 book had existed long enough to ask some visibility questions. The 2026 framework had not existed long enough to inherit every absence of attention recorded against its predecessors.
I froze the object before measuring it.
This was the chapter’s first finding, and it damaged the premise that had sent me to Earth.
The current framework had not yet failed to diffuse.
It had barely been given time to be ignored.
The initiating anomaly therefore had to move backward into the lineage and sideways into another question: not why had this new book failed to spread, but what evidence existed that the broader Triadic architecture had achieved independent uptake across its development—and what, if anything, should that evidence mean?
Availability Was Not Inheritance
The current book was not hidden.
Its author’s Triadigm site listed it among the core framework books. Retail and bookseller pages in several countries carried the 2026 edition and its ISBN. A reader who already knew the title could obtain enough metadata to locate the object. [2]
The Department marked DISTRIBUTION: SUCCESSFUL.
I removed successful.
A warehouse can distribute a book without distributing an idea.
The source had supplied the distinction itself. Records and media can preserve cultural material, but organizational inheritance requires later participants to receive, interpret, enact, contest, revise, or transmit what earlier participants established. A technically complete archive can coexist with organizational forgetting. [1]
The same logic applied uncomfortably well to the book under investigation.
A paperback was evidence that text had survived printing.
A retailer listing was evidence that the paperback had entered distribution channels.
A search result was evidence that an indexing system had associated words with a page.
None established that a scientific community, profession, organization, or practice had inherited the framework as a condition for later action.
I separated the states before looking for them.
The Department asked which state counted as evolution.
I said the question had again confused a classification with a mechanism.
The states gave me a record. They did not explain movement among them.
I Looked for Uptake Without Inventing It
I then conducted the least satisfying empirical exercise in the book: I searched for visible evidence that other people were carrying the framework.
The search was deliberately modest because a general web search is not a bibliometric database and absence from one index is not absence from scholarship. I searched the exact current title, the ISBN, the 2024 precursor title, combinations of the author and Triadic Evolution, and several distinctive terms. I also looked for reviews, course use, conference use, implementations, and explicit derivative references. I did not obtain a defensible citation count, so I report none.
The current-edition searches produced what a twenty-six-day-old independently published book could reasonably produce: the author’s own framework site and multiple bookseller or retail records. Some retailer pages displayed no reviews. That was a property of those pages, not a measure of scientific rejection. [2]
The 2024 precursor had a longer public history. The searches still did not provide me with a defensible basis for a broad claim of independent scholarly or practical adoption. I found author-controlled lineage and later books that explicitly inherited Triadic ideas. I did not find enough independently verifiable use in the public-web audit to describe a community of practice, teaching tradition, research program, or repeated third-party implementation.
That sentence required all of its qualifications.
“I did not find” was not “there is none.”
“Visible on the public web” was not “indexed everywhere.”
“Independent uptake” excluded the author carrying his own architecture into later books, but did not make that lineage irrelevant.
The Department preferred a number.
I gave it a record instead.
The record made the original anomaly both weaker and more interesting.
It was weaker because the 2026 object was too young for the absence of uptake to carry much weight.
It was more interesting because the earlier architecture had persisted through the author’s own work without obviously crossing into an independent population.
The theory of evolution had evolved.
The question was whether it had reproduced outside the household.
The Citation Count Refused to Become a Verdict
Even if I had obtained a precise citation count, the Department’s preferred inference would still have failed.
A citation can indicate use, criticism, comparison, ritual acknowledgment, methodological dependence, or the need to warn future readers away from an idea. A sales rank can indicate demand, promotion, price, distribution, timing, celebrity, institutional purchasing, or an unusually effective cover. A syllabus can indicate importance, controversy, pedagogical usefulness, or the instructor’s desire to assign something students will disagree with in public.
None of these measures is useless.
None is the verdict.
The bibliometric literature has spent enough time warning against replacing multidimensional research assessment with one metric that I did not need Triadic Evolution to rediscover the danger. Citation indicators are field-dependent, age-dependent, database-dependent, and meaningful only for specified purposes. [3]
The same asymmetry applied in reverse. Lack of attention did not establish quality. An obscure framework is not a suppressed masterpiece by default. Attention scarcity is large enough to contain weak, strong, redundant, premature, badly communicated, poorly indexed, unfashionable, inaccessible, and merely unlucky ideas simultaneously.
The question was causal.
Why would this object be difficult to adopt?
Triadic Evolution was not yet allowed to answer.
There was older competition.
Rogers Had Already Written the Rejection Letter
Everett Rogers’s diffusion-of-innovations framework provided a lower-cost rival before I used the framework to explain itself. Rogers did not write a theory of scientific-framework adoption specifically, and I did not pretend that every scholarly community behaves like a market for agricultural technology. The diagnostic variables were nevertheless direct enough to hurt.
Rogers emphasizes several perceived characteristics associated with adoption: relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. Their value in this chapter was not that they predicted an exact adoption rate. They forced the propagation story to confront properties of the object rather than begin with the environment. [4]
Relative advantage came first.
What did Triadic Evolution provide that established alternatives did not?
Chapter 2 had denied it component novelty. Chapter 7 had denied it native disciplinary necessity. Chapters 9 and 10 had found bounded decision value in selected designed cases while allowing lower-cost controls to recover most of the changed decisions. No observed outcome superiority had been established. This was not zero advantage. It was an advantage whose magnitude remained smaller than the architecture that carried it.
Compatibility was equally uncomfortable.
The framework crossed evolutionary biology, cultural evolution, organization theory, sociotechnical systems, accountability, governance, systems safety, AI, and civilizational futures. Every one of those communities already possessed terms whose local precision often exceeded the synthesis. Chapter 7 had found that a specialist could reasonably treat Triadic vocabulary as an imported language for work already native to the field.
Complexity required no new study.
I had personally spent ten chapters making the framework safer by adding conditions. Responsibility became typed. Extensions became actor-relative. Architectural cuts had to be fixed or justified. Ecosystemic Order could not be a residual bin. Artificial actorhood remained unresolved. Correctability became a recoverable path rather than six attractive verbs. Every scientific improvement added an adoption instruction.
The framework had become harder to misuse by becoming harder to carry.
Trialability had improved only late. Before Chapter 8, the source provided a diagnostic sequence but not a sufficiently frozen codebook for comparative use. By Chapters 9 and 10, practical instruments existed, but the most usable forms had eight questions and little need for the complete ontology.
Observability was weakest where adoption arguments usually become promotional. The practical tests had produced recommendation deltas in designed cases, not observed reductions in accidents, faster appeals, better learning, or improved institutional outcomes. A practitioner being asked to invest in a framework could reasonably ask to see more than an elegant reconstruction of a case whose decisive facts the investigator had designed.
I converted the comparison into a pressure record.
The Department asked whether this meant the framework had failed because Rogers explained why it had not spread.
No.
It meant the framework had lost the right to treat its own propagation story as necessary.
The Framework Explained the Architecture of Its Own Difficulty
Only then did I permit Triadic Evolution to testify.
Its Chapter 7 already contains a remarkably suitable account. Organizational variants may spread because they improve performance, fit existing routines, express valued identities, are easy to teach, receive endorsement from influential actors, are mandated by authority, become participation conditions, or inherit legitimacy from institutional pressure. They may also persist through dependence, coercion, habit, status, or the lack of alternatives. Persistence does not establish superiority. Abandonment can be adaptive. [1]
The source even cites Rogers and institutional theory while making these points.
This reduced the danger of a self-serving surprise. The framework had not invented diffusion in order to excuse its own diffusion problem. It had already stated that useful alternatives can fail to spread and ineffective arrangements can persist, and that institutional convergence may reflect legitimacy seeking or coercion rather than independent discovery of the best arrangement. [1]
Applied reflexively, the architecture produced a clean reconstruction.
The book and website were extensions preserving and distributing representations.
The author and co-authors were responsibility-bearing actors carrying the lineage.
Publishers and retailers supplied distribution without becoming adopters of the intellectual claims merely by listing them.
Professional and scholarly fields remained formations with their own vocabularies, incentives, standards, journals, methods, and authority structures.
An idea would become organizationally inherited only when later participants incorporated it into recurring interpretation or action through teaching, roles, routines, tools, standards, research programs, or other retained forms.
All of this was coherent.
It was also broad enough to explain nearly any propagation history after the fact.
If the framework spread, actors had adopted and retained it.
If it did not spread, relative advantage might be weak, compatibility low, benefits hard to observe, established institutions difficult to displace, carriers absent, authority hostile, or alternatives already sufficient.
The architecture told me what kinds of things could matter.
Rogers had forced me to rank which ones were already visibly adverse.
I recorded the difference.
Triadic Evolution could reconstruct the architecture of propagation more readily than it could explain selection among ideas.
That was useful.
It was not a victory over diffusion theory.
The Framework Had Descendants but Few Heirs
The next question was whether I had been too severe by excluding the author’s own later work from adoption.
The lineage was more extensive than my first audit had recorded.
The source book’s own intellectual-lineage note begins with Enterprise Architecture Reimagined in 2017, continues through The Transformable Enterprise in 2021 and The Triadic Evolution in 2024, then identifies Unit Oriented Enterprise Architecture in 2025 and Ecosystems Thinking in 2026 as direct architectural antecedents. Later in 2026, The Purpose Driven Design Framework for Modern Enterprises states through its publisher description that it builds on UOEA and the principles of Triadic Evolution. [5]
The omission of Ecosystems Thinking from my first inheritance record mattered more than the missing title suggested. The present source says that its singular/plural responsibility-topology distinction is carried forward from that work; that its separation of actors, formations, and represented agency develops the same responsibility-based architecture; and that its three Orders are carried forward from there into the wider evolutionary framework. Those were not decorative ancestors. They were among the exact structures Chapters 5, 6, 9, and 10 had spent the most time trying to break.
The inheritance was also not simple copying. The current framework says it narrows the earlier responsibility architecture by making attributable responsibility the admission criterion for actorhood and by replacing naming, scale, or sociotechnical coupling with responsibility topology as the discriminator. Chapter 4’s rule therefore applied directly: retained architecture had changed during transmission. The lineage showed persistence with modification, not a frozen concept moving intact from cover to cover.
This was unusually good evidence for the source’s own concept of organizational inheritance. It was also unusually poor evidence for independent adoption. The framework had been retained, revised, and retransmitted inside an intellectual program whose principal carrier remained the same authorial lineage.
This was propagation in at least one sense. Concepts had moved across books, publishers, architectures, and years. They had been revised, incorporated, and carried into new design work.
It was not independent adoption.
An author continuing to use his own ideas establishes retention, development, and authorial inheritance. A co-authored predecessor establishes a lineage with more than one participant. A major publisher distributing later work establishes an institutional carrier for that later work. None of these observations demonstrates that an independent community selected Triadic Evolution after comparing it with alternatives.
The Department objected that offspring remain offspring even when raised by their parents.
I agreed biologically.
The analogy was not helping the adoption audit.
I separated the record.
The distinction mattered for another reason.
Ideas do not have to preserve their names to have consequences.
Chapter 9 had already created the most awkward example.
The Useful Part Kept Leaving Without Its Name
The Responsible Action Check in Chapter 9 contained eight questions and almost no Triadic vocabulary. The Civilizational Action Check in Chapter 10 did the same at larger scale. Both were derived from an architecture that had taken many chapters to clarify. Both could be used by someone who never learned the formal names of the structures from which the questions came.
This created a propagation possibility I had not anticipated when the mission began.
The framework might matter by producing instruments that spread more easily than the framework.
This is not unusual. Scientific theories generate engineering approximations. Legal doctrines become forms. Safety analyses become checklists. Statistical theory becomes software whose users do not reproduce the proofs before fitting a model.
The complication was credit.
If a lower-cost diagnostic could be independently derived from safety, accountability, governance, and interdisciplinary practice, then its use would not establish Triadic propagation. Chapter 7 had already built such a control. Chapter 9 had explicitly said that a lineage is not a license fee.
But if a derived instrument retained a combination of discriminators that users later taught, adapted, and institutionalized because the combination worked, the practical object of adoption might be the instrument rather than the ontology.
The full framework could therefore fail to propagate under its own name while some useful residue did.
This was favorable only until I stated the alternative.
Perhaps the residue was all that deserved to propagate.
The distinction was testable in principle.
The test contained a possibility the Department disliked.
The most successful propagation of Triadic Evolution might be evidence that people should stop carrying most of Triadic Evolution.
The Carrier Was Not the Cargo
Institutional sponsorship supplied another tempting explanation.
The current Triadic Evolution edition is independently published. The later UOEA and PDD books were published by Apress and distributed through Springer Nature and other professional-book channels. The difference is visible in indexing, platform placement, metadata, institutional library availability, and publisher infrastructure. [5]
This could matter greatly to discoverability and legitimacy signals.
It could also become an excuse in one sentence.
An established publisher does not make a claim true. A university does not make a framework useful by adding a crest. A professional association can standardize a weak practice. A regulator can produce enormous adoption through authority rather than evidence. DiMaggio and Powell’s institutional account is especially inconvenient here: organizations can become similar through coercive, mimetic, and normative pressures that have little to do with discovering an objectively superior arrangement. [6]
Triadic Evolution itself acknowledges this point when discussing adoption.
The absence of a carrier could reduce exposure.
The presence of a carrier could increase exposure.
Neither answered why a carrier should choose this framework over other uses of its attention, reputation, pages, reviewer capacity, curriculum, or institutional authority.
I needed the carrier question to become less abstract. I therefore constructed a composite editorial consultation from the literature on interdisciplinary publication, peer review, field recognition, and research incentives. No exchange below is an interview with an identifiable editor; it combines recurring constraints reported across those literatures. Recent work finds that more interdisciplinary papers can spend longer in peer review, draw more referee questions, and encounter difficulty finding reviewers or outlets able to evaluate all of the contributing fields. Reviews of interdisciplinary research also identify publication and career incentives that can make boundary-crossing work costly even when institutions publicly encourage it.[7]
“Where would you place this?” the composite editor asked.
I listed evolutionary science, organization studies, sociotechnical systems, AI governance, systems safety, philosophy of technology, enterprise architecture, and futures research.
“That is not a destination.”
“Interdisciplinary?”
“Interdisciplinary is not a shelf.”
The objection was not comic shorthand for disciplinary hostility. A carrier has to identify readers, reviewers, comparison standards, and the promise made by the object. If one part of a manuscript requires evolutionary biology, another collective agency, another systems safety, another institutional governance, and another AI policy, no single reviewer pool becomes competent merely because the synthesis is sincere. Multiplying reviewers can improve coverage while increasing coordination, questions, delay, and the possibility that every field sees the material nearest itself as familiar and the rest as insufficiently native.
I asked the more damaging question. “Would you carry it?”
The composite editor did not ask whether the framework was true. She asked what a first reader would gain, which existing work the framework outperformed for that reader, whether the full architecture was necessary to obtain the result, what evidence showed that independent users could apply it, and which community could evaluate the claim without first learning the author’s entire vocabulary.
These were not publishing objections disguised as science. They were adoption costs made visible at a carrier boundary. Chapter 7 had already shown that no native field required Triadic Evolution for its own competent work. Chapters 8 through 10 had shown that the most practical discriminators could often be carried in smaller instruments. The editorial question therefore returned directly to Rogers: relative advantage had to exceed the cost of making an unfamiliar object legible to the people expected to receive it.
The incentive problem extended beyond editors. A researcher using the full framework in an article would spend scarce space defining an architecture before presenting the result, depend on reviewers able to judge several literatures, and accept some risk that disciplinary audiences would treat the work as peripheral to their own debates. The interdisciplinary-research literature reports real career and publication frictions of this kind; it does not establish that they caused Triadic Evolution’s uptake pattern. It establishes a mechanism by which the cost of carrying a cross-disciplinary framework can be independent of whether its central claim is sound.[7]
A practitioner pays a different price: training time, method support, disagreement handling, integration with existing procedures, and evidence that the new instrument changes a consequential decision often enough to justify those costs. A teacher pays with syllabus space: every new framework displaces material that already has a literature, methods, exercises, and an evaluation tradition. In each case the scarce resource is not abstract attention. It is an opportunity to do something else.
This made incentives concrete without turning them into an exculpatory theory. A framework with no native reviewer pool can face a genuine carrier disadvantage. A framework whose relative advantage remains modest can also rationally fail to attract the effort required to build that pool.
The causal arrow could run in either direction.
The framework might lack adoption because it lacked strong institutional carriers.
It might lack carriers because relevant communities had not seen enough advantage to carry it.
Both processes could reinforce each other.
I could not identify their relative contribution from the available evidence.
I marked the explanation PLAUSIBLE / NON-EXCULPATORY.
The Department asked whether that status meant the publisher was innocent.
I said no one had been charged.
The Framework Was Discoverable Only After I Knew What to Search For
Discoverability then produced a more practical problem.
An exact-title search is a weak test of discovery because the searcher has already discovered the object.
The same applied to canonical terms. A person searching for sociotechnical agent, Evolution by Extension, or Ecosystemic Order had already accepted enough of the framework’s vocabulary to locate it.
A realistic user begins with a problem.
How should responsibility be assigned when automated execution and organizational authority diverge?
How can a cross-organizational process preserve a practical stop and repair path?
When does a regulated field become an integrated undertaking?
How should a mission remain bounded when its consequences are global?
The public web already contained vast literatures under accountability, meaningful human control, systems safety, platform governance, organizational learning, polycentric governance, and related names. Chapter 7 had established that those literatures were not inferior search results waiting to be replaced. They were the native homes of much of the substance.
This created a compatibility problem at the level of search itself.
The framework’s most distinctive vocabulary was useful for locating the framework.
The world’s problem vocabulary was useful for locating the prior art.
A person could therefore encounter the problem, find established approaches, solve enough of it, and never acquire a reason to search for the synthesis.
No disciplinary conspiracy was required.
Search had become a miniature version of Chapter 7.
Each field already knew where its part lived.
The Investigation Became an Intervention
Only after I had frozen the visibility record did the Department notice what I had been doing to it.
I had created ten chapters of comparisons around Triadic Evolution.
I had named the framework repeatedly.
I had derived practical checklists from it.
I had linked it to neighboring literatures.
I was preparing another book whose title asked whether the framework deserved to matter.
If published, the investigation would become another discoverable object associated with the framework. It could create readers, critics, citations, reviews, searches, derivative tools, objections, and perhaps enough institutional curiosity to alter the propagation environment I was trying to explain.
The Department opened a new classification automatically.
I objected to the Departmental classification.
This was an investigation.
The Department asked whether publication would increase the number of documents discussing Triadic Evolution.
Yes.
It changed the classification to OUTREACH WITH METHODOLOGICAL APPENDIX.
I objected again.
Less confidently.
The joke was methodological rather than promotional. If later uptake increased, the book could not announce that the framework had finally evolved and treat the increase as external confirmation. The investigator would have entered the propagation network.
Triadic Evolution would then have explained an organizational process partly by causing one.
The Department considered this efficient experimental design.
I did not.
The Simplest Explanation Survived Longer Than I Wanted
I now had enough explanations to become suspicious of explanation.
The current edition was extremely young.
The framework had no obvious disciplinary home.
Its native vocabulary competed with mature fields.
Independent publication could reduce some discovery and legitimacy signals.
Institutional carriers matter, and early adopters face incentives that can reward disciplinary fit, established reviewer communities, familiar methods, and immediately observable results.
Search is problem-shaped, and the problems already have names.
The framework’s own organizational-inheritance architecture could reconstruct how ideas are stored, adopted, resisted, mandated, retained, transmitted, or abandoned.
The investigation itself would alter future visibility.
Every one of these points made neglect more understandable.
None erased the simplest explanation.
Perhaps the framework had not spread because it had not yet earned enough reason to spread.
This was not the same as saying it was useless.
The investigation had already established the opposite in a bounded sense. The architecture could preserve distinctions across changing analytical cuts. It had survived deliberate searches for missing categories by becoming more constrained rather than infinitely elastic. Selected parts became operational. Designed cases showed that responsibility, effective authority, relational scope, and correctability could change an intervention. At civilizational scale, the framework could recommend stronger bounded integration rather than merely object to centralization.
But the weaknesses remained equally real.
Most components had substantial prior art.
No discipline needed the framework to perform its native science.
The full vocabulary repeatedly lost necessity contests to simpler controls.
Independent reliability studies remained unperformed.
The artificial-actor boundary remained operationally unresolved.
Ecosystemic Order remained broad.
The strongest positive practical deltas came from designed cases.
Observed outcome superiority remained absent.
The framework was therefore asking potential adopters to pay conceptual cost before the most consequential benefits had been independently demonstrated.
That is an ordinary reason not to adopt something.
It required no disciplinary blindness.
It required no conspiracy of journals.
It required no claim that the framework was ahead of its time.
It required only that people have other things to learn.
The Department asked whether normal attention scarcity should count as a hostile environment.
I said it should count as an environment in which relative advantage has to become visible.
This was the least flattering explanation I had found and the one most consistent with the evidence.
The neglect was partly environmental.
It was also partly earned.
The Adoption File Refused to Close
The Department reopened the cause field.

It asked what should happen next.
The available values were DISCARD, PROMOTE, and CONTINUE OBSERVATION.
DISCARD was too strong. The framework had survived too many serious tests and had produced enough bounded utility to make dismissal require more than low uptake.
PROMOTE was indefensible. Independent validation remained thin, the current edition was too new, several claims were still research-program propositions, and the full architecture had not justified universal adoption.
CONTINUE OBSERVATION sounded safe.
I selected it.
The Department immediately asked: FOR HOW LONG?
The question exposed the defect.
Continue observation was not a verdict.
It was postponement wearing a laboratory coat.
The investigation had now answered why the framework had not obviously propagated as far as its scope might suggest. The answer was neither triumph nor dismissal. The 2026 object was too new for strong conclusions. The longer lineage showed real authorial inheritance, including substantial retention and revision through Enterprise Architecture Reimagined, The Transformable Enterprise, the 2024 precursor, UOEA, Ecosystems Thinking, and later PDD work, but little independently demonstrated community inheritance in the limited audit. Standard diffusion theory explained much of the adoption friction without Triadic help. Interdisciplinary carrier and incentive research supplied plausible mechanisms for publication, reviewer, career, curriculum, and attention costs without establishing that those mechanisms caused this framework’s particular history. The Triadic architecture added a useful distinction between stored representation and socially operative inheritance, but not an obviously superior theory of why ideas win. And several internal properties of the framework—complexity, modest demonstrated relative advantage, under-tested claims, and compressibility into smaller instruments—made limited adoption rational on the present evidence.
Popularity could not settle the book.
Neglect could not settle it either.
I deleted CONTINUE OBSERVATION.
A final file opened.
Its title was Final Disposition.
The Department read the accumulated ledger before I could enter anything.
It generated a provisional status on my behalf.
ANNOYINGLY DIFFICULT TO DISCARD.
I left the field unchanged.
For the first time, this was because it was approximately correct.
