About the Author

Andre Milchman is an independent researcher and enterprise and software architect based in Toronto, Canada. His professional work centers on designing and analyzing systems inside large, complex organizations, with particular attention to how authority, capability, and responsibility move in practice rather than on organizational charts.

He is the author of The Purpose Driven Design Framework for Modern Enterprises and Unit Oriented Enterprise Architecture, both published by Apress, and of Ecosystems Thinking, a responsibility-based account of actors, authority, and order. The Fall of Meaning turns the same discipline from the design of institutions to the gap between what they promise and what they produce.

His work seeks to make complex sociotechnical worlds more intelligible without reducing people to components, institutions to abstractions, or human judgment to an optimization problem.
